Getting back into it.

Cycle 2 - Week 1

Winter break is over, and the fall semester has begun. That means development on Tank Tracks has resumed.

…or is getting ready to resume.

This first week was about refamiliarizing myself with my code (Trust me, that's pretty normal for developers.) and laying out my goals for this semester.

Last semester, I fully developed the core component for the game, the tank itself, with driving and the turret functionality fully implemented. I also managed to get some racing logic in at the tail end. This semester is all about building up the actual game surrounding it. This includes the menu systems, gameplay loop, and AI players. By the end of this semester or the development cycle, I look to have what feels like a complete(ish) game with a clear structure and gameplay loop.

Any future development time will go to loading the game with content, including more race tracks and tanks for the player to drive. I'll also look for an artist to help me with the game's visuals so I'm not relentlessly on Unity Asset Store items.

So, here's to the new year and to me trying to post a development blog every week this time. (Spoiler alert: I probably won't.)

This concludes this week's report.
