Prep for the Next

Week 7

This week was more backend management and preparation for the next major future. That being the ammo and ammo pickup system. As such there’s only one small thing to show in terms of gameplay features.

That small thing being hit register. Code and framework have been added to allow for other vehicles to detect when they’ve been hit by a shell and already includes empty variable to transferring information about the shell to the victim. But that will come into play later.

For now, I simple debug message is printed stating which object has been hit.

As for the backend stuff, a significant amount of effort has already been dedicated to laying down the foundation. This involves a rudimentary framework that sets the stage for the implementation of the highly anticipated ammo system. This involved undertaking some crucial code refactoring to ensure seamless integration and smooth future expansion. While the current state mainly consists of empty placeholders and skeletal functions, they serve as a crucial stepping stone towards the overarching vision of the game.

Next week will not have a development blog as I buckled down and get the ammo feature implemented.

I’ll also be polishing the game for a demo build at GDC. That is my primary goal. If the ammo feature starts digging into my prep-time, it will be put on hold to allow for the finishing of the demo.

This concludes this week’s report.
